Support
Whose responsibility?
Taking care of the mentally handicapped is the collective responsibility of families concerned, professionals committed and government elected. Everyone in the society should shoulder the responsibility and work together for the overall development without leaving them to their fate. If considerable care is taken, appropriate attention is paid and proper activities are planned suitable to their potential, no wonder these people with mental retardation can be converted into useful contributors of the society. Lebenshilfe has accepted this responsibility as a social commitment.
Imparting free training - Lebenshile's policy
It is Lebenshilfe's policy to impart free training to the mentally handicapped and basing on this, ever since its inception, it started embracing retarded people, hailing from poorer sections of the society , no matter whatever caste, creed, religion they belong to. Parents are not burdened financially and their children are safe and comfortable in the hands of Lebenshilfe.
In-sufficient Resources - greater challenges
Getting started with the initial financial support from a few Lebenshilfe organizations of the then West Germany to maintain 3 staff members to train 12 mentally handicapped children which continued for 7 years, a sense of confidence in the parents was established. When Government of India, the then Ministry of Welfare stretched its supporting hand in the form of partial grant-in-aid to meet the running costs, Lebenshilfe's working hands were strengthened to some extent to continue its services to the poor, needy and deserving people with mental retardation. As the institution has grown from 12 M.R. Children to 454 people of all ages in its strength, the needs of this growing institution have also grown up leaving Lebenshilfe in severe financial set backs.
Meeting the expenditure for classroom activities, residential facility expenditure, paying salaries to essential service providers like ayahs, helpers and sweepers, serving severely mentally handicapped, turned into a greater challenge.
Why Lebenshilfe Looks at You?

'Every thought is a devine seed and it turns into a thoughtful action when given proper attention'. If kids are shaped in this direction, no wonder, they become contributors of world-friendly erasing the broader line drawn by the society as Abled and disabled. They can make a difference by allowing that devine thought grow into a great humanitarian tree to spread worldwide.
I heard my mom and her friend Jaya often discussing the immediate need to build up lives of the mentally challenged people of Lebenshilfe(www.lebenshilfeindia.org).
A sense of awakening took place unknowingly in my heart. God has given me good health, great parents and greater opportunities to attain a life in the manner I wish to become. But who will help these people? Unless people like you and I?
Thoughts over thoughts and ideas after ideas rushing into my mind and finally I decided for my entry into Lebenshilfe's support project. Is simple entry enough? I am still a student and how can I start extending my help?
I decided to work for this cause during my liesure time and donate to Lebenshilfe. My little friend Rohit (Jaya's son) joined his hands. My Dad AppaRao and Rohit's Dad Chakri supported our ideas and thus making us move forwards.
I started working for this cause and made a fabulous beginning with $40 donation.
The attitude to donate that counts not the amount, says Lebenshilfe Founder .
We are rope-ing in kids/students worldwide. Your entry strengthens our spirit and a meaningful 'LIFE'to the mentally challenged people. Come andjoin your hands for this good cause. Friends, let us 'Open Humanitarian Doors' for Caring The Un-Cared.
